Model train section

Our model railway layout became an inherent part of our museum. It is located on 3rd floor of the social building. Before 2014 there was a railway presentation and a small model train layout, which was rather a toy than a model, where guests were allowed to drive a train by themselves.

On the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the first long-distance railway line in Germany between Leipzig and Dresden, a three-section railway layout was established. It shows the initial shape of the station in Riesa and the bridge over the river Elbe next to it (around 1840), the destruction of the tunnel Oberau in 1934 and the cut near Machern when the overhead wires were installed for electric traction (late 1960's). This layout had been built in 1988 and 1989 on behalf of the 150th anniversary of this line. Students of the "Hochschule für Verkehrswesen 'Friedrich List'" created it as a demonstration object at that time (university for transportation at that time, name of honor "Friedrich List", today Faculty of Transportation and Traffic Sciences "Friedrich List" of Technische Universität Dresden).

It was presented on behalf of several events in the course of the anniversary in 1989 as well as in the main station of Dresden. But over the years, it was simply forgotten in some remote storeroom on the campus. Luckily, the layout was rediscovered by chance in 2012 and subsequently handed over to our association. Passionate model railroaders of our association refurbished and revitalized it - spending countless hours of ambitious efforts... Finally, they proudly presented it on behalf of our 6th steam engine festival in April 2014 for the first time.
